Yearly, Filipinos celebrate the National Language Month or the Buwan ng Wika. It is one of the most highly anticipated events celebrated from elementary to college students and even emloyees and government officials all over the Philippines. It was issued on the Proclamation 1041 wherein it was signed by our former President Fidel V. Ramos. He declares that the national celebration of the National Language Month should happen every August. Additionally, former President Manuel Quezon, was considered the Father of the National Language. He was chosen to be the Father of National Language because he pushed in establishing Tagalog as the Philippine’s national language. The annual "Buwan ng Wika" happens every 1st week of August. The month-long nationwide activities was led by the Commission of the Filipino Language with the theme “Filipino: Wika ng Karunungan.” The celebration aims to highlight linguistic and cultural activities all over the country. And also, to show the importance of the National Language to our national identity and culture and to promote it as a medium of communication.
The celebration of Buwan ng Wika started last August 1, 2016. The Supreme Student Council were busy preparing for the celebration. The SSC seeked for talented and intelligent students to participate in the different fields of activites in the said event. Anne Jazpher Raz from CCS got the 1st place wherein she competed for the Tagis Talino. During this week, Claire Receli Rañosa from CCS excelled in the Likharawan and also got the 1st place. Our college department were all happy and proud because of the achievement we got. It's really #TaonNgPagbawi for us CCS students. After weeks of preparing for the culminating program as to end the celebration of Buwan ng Wika, September 2, 2016 has finally arrived. It was held at the DMDY Complex. The day started when the colorful booths of each college departments were properly arranged on the complex. Each booths were designed with different places in the Philippines. The booths showcased the famous foods, sceneries and products of the place they have picked. CCS got "Aklan" and eventually got the 3rd place. Right after the judging of the booths, the SSC started the culminating program with the invocation and the singing of the National Anthem. The SSC President, Mr. Joel Doblar, gave his opening remarks. The Masters of the Ceremony immediately started with the 1st part of the program, the Pambayang Sayaw. Since our department picked Aklan, the CCS dancers chose the Gayong-Gayong. It is a dance which originated from Aklan. The Pambayang Sayaw ended exactly at 12 pm so the program resumed after lunch time. While some of us were still feasting on our foods for lunch, the participants from Vocal Solo and Vocal Duet were busy practicing for their song piece. So right after the lunch time, the 2nd part of the program started. The Masters of the Ceremony called the attentions of the participants of the Vocal Solo and Duet and they all showcased their talents in singing. The Filipinos were truly talented!
The last part of the program was the Awarding of the different competitions held during the Buwan ng Wika celebration. The SSC awarded and gave appreciation to the participants of the Tagis Talino, Vocal Solo, Vocal Duet, Pagsulat ng Tula, Likharawan, Pambayang Sayaw and many more. In the end, CCS got the 3rd place in the overall summary of the performance. The day ended fairly and happily. We went home with smiles on our faces. After witnessing some Filipino traditions from what we've seen from the program, it really makes me wanna say that I'm really proud to be a Filipino.
